2026 marks our tenth year together. It’s hard to believe that so much time has already passed. Ten years ago, we met at a summer skate gathering. In the many summer nights that followed, we rode through the warm air of Minneapolis—skateboards under our feet, moonlight above us, drifting through the breeze. Those were the years when we were young, carefree, and wonderfully free. We won’t repeat the familiar line about how many decades life contains. But looking back, sharing such a long stretch of life with someone seems to make many things feel a little less difficult. For about half of these ten years, we lived in different cities—or even different countries. Yet distance never created separation; instead, it gave our relationship a certain resilience. Perhaps we are like two plants growing in different places, whose roots remain quietly intertwined beneath the soil. After years of moving and wandering, we finally returned to the same city in our eighth year together. That same year, we officially registered our marriage. We went back and forth for a long time about whether to have a wedding at all. In the end, we realized a wedding isn’t only a ceremony for ourselves—it is a chance to gather the people we love most and share a moment together. When friends who already live scattered across the world are willing to travel and meet in one place, the moment itself becomes something rare and precious.
